Application note

Application Note: Tablet Production Scale-Up Review

A reference framework for comparing batch preparation and tablet-compression equipment during scale-up.

YOKO technical editorial

Scope and limitations

This reference note describes a selection method and does not identify a completed customer project. Scale-up decisions should be based on formulation data and qualified process trials.

Scale-up inputs

The review begins with batch size, bulk density, flow, compressibility, granulation route, target tablet geometry, tablet weight, hardness range, and expected changeover frequency. These inputs connect preparation equipment to the tablet press rather than treating each machine separately.

Balance downstream stages

Downstream dedusting, inspection, metal detection where required, and coating capacity must be balanced against the sustained tablet-press output. Cleaning access and tooling strategy often have more practical impact than the maximum press speed.

Document the model shortlist

A model shortlist should document assumptions, process tests still required, utilities, containment requirements, tooling scope, and the acceptance criteria for factory testing.
